The first mention to the town of Aljofrín dates back to 1139, when Munio Alfonso's will includes information about his father Aldefonsus Munio receiving the town as a donation from Alfonso VI in 1139. The following time the town is ever mentioned is in 1267, when it is refered to as Alquería de la Sisla. An archeological site known as Canto Hincado, where roman and arab remains were found, implies the idea of a more ancient settlement in Ajofrín. Ajofrín was taken from the Arab rule just after Toledo was by King Alfonso VI and Cid Campeador. The town celebrates Fiestas honouring Virgen de Gracia, on the Sunday following Sanit Agustín, late August or the beginning of September. Festivities of some importance too are the Romerías de Alimán (Tuesday following Resurrection Sunday) and Romerías de los Cuatro Caminos (Tuesday following the first Sunday in May) and the Función Chica on the first Sunday of May. The main monuments found in the town are Parish Church of Santa María Magdalena (XV c.), the House of Jacinto Guerrero, Fountain of San Ildefonso or Cuatro Caños , El Rollo or Picota , Caño Viejo, Convent of Dominicas Descalzas, Visigothic Prison, and also several shrines and stately Houses. Several Nature Trails pass by the town of Ajofrín, being the town in a main crossroads. Population: 2361 p. Extension : 35 km² Altitude : 770 m.
