The town was originally named "Castillo de Almonacid" and was donated by King Alfonso VI to the Chruch in Toledo. In 1132 King Alfonso VII donates the town to Count Don Pons de Cabrera, and later, in 1176, hands it over to the Order of Chivalry of Calatrava. The Castle was kept under the rule of the Archbishops in Toledo until nearly the end of XVIII century. During the Independence War, the Battle of Almonacid is remebered for having caused the Spanish Army to retreat towards the Guadiana River suffering the siege of the French Army. 4.000 Spanish soldiers and 2.000 French soldiers died during the battle. The main Monuments that can be visited in this town are: Almonacid Castle, a Muslim Building donated by King Alfonso VI to the Cathedral in Toledo, and the Virgen del Olivo Shrine. Population: 792 p.
