Santa María la Blanca Sinagogue

The Sinagoga Santa María la Blanca is the biggest sinagogue in Toledo's Aljama, and was erected in the year "four thousand nine hundred and forty" (1180 a.C.) as it is engraved in one of the wooden beams.
It was rebuilt during the XIII century and converted into a Christian Temple on 1405. During the XVI century, Cardinal Silíceo used the building as a penitenciary for repented women and the three chapels found at the front side date from that period, housing an altarpiece by either Berruguete or Juan de Borgoña.
During the XVIII century the building was used as military headquarters and during the XIX century was used as warehouse
It is onsidered one of the finest examples of Almohade Art in Spain.
